Juniperus horizontalis 'Wiltonii', commonly called Blue Rug Juniper, is one of the most popular prostrate conifers used as ground cover. It features dense, trailing branches that hug the ground, forming a flat, spreading mat that grows only 10–15 cm tall but can reach 2–2.5 meters wide.

Its needle-like foliage is a brilliant silver-blue in spring and summer, providing a cool-toned contrast in the landscape. In winter, the foliage may take on subtle purplish hues, adding seasonal interest.

‘Wiltonii’ is an excellent choice for erosion control on banks and slopes, between paving stones, in rock gardens, or cascading over walls and raised beds. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil, and is extremely drought-tolerant once established. This variety is also pest- and deer-resistant, making it a reliable, low-maintenance option.

Its tough nature, compact form, and striking color make Juniperus horizontalis 'Wiltonii' a top choice for both decorative and functional planting.
